We really enjoyed the play, clever use of stage & actors to convey different locations, nice to see a diverse cast, good family play.
Brilliant production. Well acted and loved the new adaptation.
Unfortunately the show is a poorly written adaptation of the original book, and really lacks the spirit and depth of the original story. Some members of the cast are very good but on the whole, we were disappointed.
I went into this show assuming it was the musical that I grew up with as a child. At first I was disappointed when I realized that wasn't the case at all. But that quickly dissipated as I watched. This was a beautiful take on this classic story. The way the whole cast was involved throughout, the story telling, the staging, the garden. It was absolutely delightful. The cast was all perfect. I'm so glad that I went. What a lovely experience!
Magnificent performance. Lived it under magic of the London summer sky. Highlight of summer!
Great performance and story. Highly recommend.
It was actually amazing how poorly one can adapt this story, yet this play version of The Secret Garden was able to accomplish what I believed was impossible. I’m not usually one to accuse something of pushing agendas, but out of the several this script attempted to push, not one was properly developed. The first act causes one to scratch their head, but perhaps have some hope that the second act will redeem themselves. Then you quickly realize that it’s only further going downhill. So much happens in such a slow pace. I was ready to leave about five minutes into the second act. The author of this script seems to have seen the musical Hadestown and thought to themselves, “I could do that.” Spoiler alert: they couldn’t. Tell, not show is the principal of this production. How do you strip this story of its magic? How do you strip it if it’s charm and whimsy and wonder? How do you miss the point of the story? The only redeeming quality of the show is the acting. If only Archibald was allowed to properly developed. If only most character was properly developed. If only a thirteen year old didn’t kiss a ten year old. If only an aunt wasn’t written into this story where part of the point is that the children are practically alone in the world. If only Yorkshire was allowed to be as much of a character as that land is in the story. Don’t waste your time with this production. Stay home, sip Hot Cocoa in front of the fireplace and listen to the musical soundtrack instead. Don’t waste your money, your time or your sanity.
